Calvin Klein Women

One of the famous American fashion designers of all time is Calvin Rickard Klein, with almost 50 years of unprecedented success not only in the clothing industry, but to almost all luxury products as well. Born in the Bronx with Jewish Hungarian parents, Calvin Klein is yet another brilliant product of New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology. His very first apprenticeship was an old-line manufacturer of cloaks and suits after which he spent 5 years designing for various shops in New York. He later launched his own company, the Calvin Klein clothing line in partnership with his childhood friend.

Early on, a lot of fashion experts saw Calvin Klein’s natural flair for designing clothes and was even recognized as the protégé of the great Baron de Gunzburg. The slowly inched his way to the top through various introductions and referrals and soon became the toast of New York’s fashion scene catering solely for the elite. Denim jeans were the first clothing line launched, and was soon hailed as the new version Yves Saint Lauren, and was particularly noted for the clean lines in all of his designs and straight cut coats and suits.

The Calvin Klein Empire that now rakes in millions of dollars annually started its operation with a measly initial capital of $ 10,000. The very first collection was released through the initiative of Calvin Klein himself who showed samples of his works to Bonwit Teller. This featured the special of clothe for both men and women. This later proved to be one of the most important moves of Calvin Klein since a lot of women particularly adored his designs. In fact, the designer was later hailed to be the “ supreme master of minimalism” by Vogue magazine. By the early 70’s, he expanded his portfolio to include lingerie products, classic blazers and sportswear items and officially launched his complete selection of Calvin Klein Women.

It was in 1973 that he received the Coty Award for the very first time for the special 74 piece clothing line for women. The same award was actually given to him for three consecutive years that of course spelled out his phenomenal success for Calvin Klein Women apparels. As early as 1977, the company’s sales skyrocketed to $ 30 million, after which he was prompted to expand his product line to accessories that included scarves, furs, belts, sunglasses, shoes and sheets. By then, it was quite apparent that the Calvin Klein Women line was actually the most important market since more and more women are eager to spend on even the most expensive luxury items out of sheer frivolity and attraction to the sleek lines of all Calvin Klein clothes.

A year later, he also launched his cosmetics line and men’s wear collection that further increased retail volume and annual sales of an estimated $ 100 million, and achieving the record breaking sales of selling 200,000 pairs of jeans in just a matter of week from the release date. Truth be known, this creative genius was the very first one to initiate the trend of creating jeans with the brand name on its back pocket that soon compelled other designer brands to follow suit.

Among the most memorable Calvin Klein advertisements featured the bushy eye browed Brooke Shield show as still 15 years old at that time, cooing the famous tag line “ nothing comes between me and my Calvins’, which of course one of the major TV exposures that propelled her to grand stardom.

The rest, as they all say is history. As in any other field, a true work of a genius will never go unnoticed for long. And Calvin Klein was really on top of the league since he was able to build his empire with pure talent and impressive business acumen - truly a man well ahead of his time.
