Chloe Fashion was initially founded way back in 1952 through the creative genius of Gaby Aghion, a Parisienne but of an Egyptian descent and distinctively Bohemian spirit. She generated interest in the fashion industry by her stubborn rejection against adhering to the stiff and all too constricting formality of the fashion trend dictated in the 50’s. Instead of using the stiff cloth, she displayed keen partiality to fine fabrics, which she often referred to as “ luxury prêt-a-porter”. During that time, the Chloe clothing line offered designs that were considered uniquely refreshing, and eventually became a highly preferred alternative when women eventually started to lean towards stylishly designed clothing that are made available right off the rack.

After four years in operation, Gaby Aghion along with her business partner and friend Jacques Lenoir, decided to launch their very first Chloe Women collection at Café De Flore over breakfast. This location was considered to be the favorites meeting place for many existentialists along with artists that was coincidentally among the popular haunts at that time.

The brand name “ Chloe” was initially chosen to represent the collection mainly for the seemingly warm and very feminine appeal. The first Chloe Women collection turned out to be in perfect sync with the newly shifted mood of Paris’ haute couture. It features vibrant designs with youthful styles exuding the modern chic that became a rage among make fashion aficionados who are constantly on a lookout for fresh new approaches. Most of the clothes also exude a slight and charmingly audacious spirit that perfectly complemented the mindset of the youth during that generation.

Soon enough, the Chloe Women label rapidly gained popularity among the top fashion circles. The two partners the decided to infuse new blood in the seeming too formal fashion scene by hiring eager young talents to help in contributing hip new designs for the next collections. This bold move turned out to be the hallmark of the fashion house’s success and further brought home the signature statement of brand’s vision to cater to the highly exuberant youth and middle-aged consumers.

The company fully saw the opportunity to tap new talents to define the modern look of fashion. This resulted to the brand’s noticeable influence in the ready-to-wear market of Paris. In 1966, Karl Lagerfield took on the creative helm as the head designer of the Chloe fashion house. Under his expert guidance, the company soon became one of the highly regarded iconic brands in the world of fashion. Among the prominent personalities that became members of the company’s elite clientele included: Jackie Kennedy, Maria Callas, Grace Kelly and Brigitte Bardot. Some of the famous designs back then that created quite a stir are the luxurious daywear items that seem to exude a charming touch of romanticism. This included gauzy blouses and flamboyant skirts that became the fashion rage of that generation.

Staying true in Chloe’s vision of offering timeless beauty and elegance while still maintaining that vibrant energy of the youth, the company was able to consistently come up with cutting edge designs to keep apace with the changing lifestyle and preference of women. Among the major designer contributors that ensured unprecedented success was Martine Sitbon, who was known to be highly skilled fashion designer of his time.

To mark its marketing prowess in the fashion industry, Chloe purchased Richemont Group, which is known to be one of the leading manufacturers of luxury products. This of course further cemented the company’s clout in the fashion industry. Today, the company is under the creative direction of another talented designer Phoebe Philo still continues to provide designs true to the legacy of the luxurious and equally audacious prêt-a-porter designs. The original Chloe vision still lives on and is quite apparent in all the designs featured in its recent collections.
