Emilio Pucci Women

Italy, like Paris is quite well known to be the breeding ground of highly skilled fashion designers that have made significant contributions to the industry. Another Italian pride is Emilio Pucci, who started his roots in Naples, Italy, born from an Italian noble family. Unlike other designers who usually featured their different versions of glossed-over rags to riches success, Pucci had all the opportunities by simply being born from an affluent family in Italy. However, in the cutthroat world of fashion, money can only take you so far – pure talent and business acumen assures more longevity in the business.

In the case of Emilio Pucci, his claim to fame was his first design collection of streamlines skiing outfits, specifically created for the Reed team. Being a member of the Olympic ski team himself, he had a fair insight on the number of factors that should be carefully considered in designing suits for professional skiers. He was later featured in the Harper’s Bazaar magazine wearing the ski suit he designed himself. The magazine’s editor in chief took notice and requested Pucci to design a skiwear for the story they will cover on the European Winter Fashion.

The unplanned exposure and the encouraging interest his designs generated prompted him to venture into creating and selling clothes for women. This resulted to the couture house he opened in 1950, strategically located on the Isle of Capri. This gave birth to the world famous Emilio Pucci women clothing line. What sets this brand apart from all other designer labels is the noticeable use of cloths in bright colors and attractive bold patterns, which more often that not clash in such riotous fashion. People claim that they can easily spot an Emilio Pucci fabric from afar simply because of its all too daring designs and styles. Among the notable contributions of the Emilio Pucci women collection is the wrinkle free silk dresses that are also available in prints and the widely popular Capri pants that are still popular these days.

He later expanded his production as he took interest in creating uniforms for the flight attendants of Braniff Airlines. This particular design falls under the category of avant-garde creation since it features detachable components that can be easily adjusted according to the dictates of the weather. These uniforms featured turtlenecks, cropped jackets, shirts and culottes. Another notable design is the bubble helmet, which mainly consist of hood made of clear plastic that are worn by the flight attendants to effectively protect their hairdos and the blasts of the jet engines.

Aside from his foray in his own brand of Emilio Pucci clothing line, the designer was also known to dabble in politics, having been elected in 1965 to the Italian Parliament. A well-known and highly respected fascist of his time, he also had several publications to staunchly support his cause.

Soon after his death in 1992, his daughter Laudomia Pucci still continued to make deigns under the Emilio Pucci women label. Continuing the legacy bequeathed by her father, Laudomia Pucci have steadfastly worked along with other creative geniuses such as Matthew Williamson and Catherine Vautrin.

All the Emilio Pucci fashion shows are strictly by invitation only and usually cater for celebrities, the fashion press and the retail buyers. This generally means the events are not open for public. However, all products are sold in a number of Emilio Pucci retail outlets as well as high-end department stores, still featuring the bold design in swirly and brightly colored patterns. Among the latest widely popular product is the limited edition Pucci case for Sony’s Portable Playstation, that became a fashionable accessory for a lot of serious gamers.

So if you are tired of the plain blacks or solid color clothing, you might want to add a splash of color with the signature Pucci designs.
