Italian products have taken unshakable dominance in the world of fashion throughout the decades. This is mainly because the country has consistently bred highly skilled and exceptionally talented fashion designers that have unfailingly taken the global industry by storm.
Another member of the Italy’s fashion elite roster is Fendi, which started as a small business venture of the newly married couple Edoardo and Adele Fendi. According to the history of Fendi, they initially opened a small shop offering leather good materials and fur workshops during the post war period in 1925. Like all other middle class families, the couple had high hopes of seeking economic recovery through the earning from the shop. Their prayers were soon answered since according to history, the business took off quite famously and was met with a resounding success. The couple easily built a strong clientele by offering superior quality handbags and the skillful workmanship with their fur products.
After seven years of operation, the Fendis finally decided to expand and put up a bigger brand on via Veneto, in the heart of one of the most important commercial districts at that time. As the business meteorically grew, the Fendi name became famous not only in Rome but well outside the boundaries of the locality as well. Many Italian women became overly fascinated with the authentic Fendi products with the brand fast becoming quite synonymous to style and taste.
However, the keen attraction to genuine Italian fashion was also shared by the second generation of Fendis, particularly their eldest daughter Paola who joined the family business at the tender age of 15. Soon, the four younger sisters all followed suit, which all infused fresher and more modern designs for their leather goods and furs. The family all worked under the tenacious guidance of the supportive mother, which provided them hands on instruction on the complexities of the business as well as the quality of workmanship that goes into their products.
Having long established the widely known brands name, Fendi opened a hop in Borgognona, along the small streets of local craftsmen. Many other important fashion names soon opened a branch in the area, and Adele saw this as an opportunity to create an association with fellow merchants in order to effectively preserve the quality of the roads. Years after, it is considered to be one of the most elegant streets in the entire city, which of course proved to be quite beneficial for their trade. When Lagerfield later joined the Fendi Company in 1965, the Fendi women line of coats and furs made a turnabout that created quite a stir among the fashion elite. Originally, the coats were presented in rather stiff and austere designs. With the whole new concept of Lagerfield, Fendi offers lighter and softer coats that fit more easily on women. The success prompted Poala Fendi to seek other materials to be used in their Fendi women collection, along with more innovative techniques designed to improve the quality of their products.
In 1969, Fendi women designs included ready to wear pieces that attracted foreign markets as well as some major store sin the United States. While leather and fur were still the primary materials used, there are other fabrics incorporated in their designs that were waterproof, and made available in various stylish patterns. Today, the third generations of Fendis have also contributed to the family empire by working along with other designers and launching constant research and development projects to further enhance and improve their products.
Suffice it today, the double FF symbol is now a globally known brand that enjoyed partiality among many women who have an eye for quality and fine detail. However, all would not have been made possible without the concerted efforts of the three generation of Fendis who have worked tirelessly to protect the integrity of their name and their products.
