Hurley Women

A few decades ago, fashion was exclusively limited to the affluent few in the society who can easily afford to splurge on ostentatious luxuries without batting an eyelash. While this might have presented quite an injustice, this was simply a fact of life that many people have to contend with at that time. However, through the years as fashion evolved, it also expanded its market to various niches that have also proven quite lucrative.

While Hollywood celebrities are considered to be among the highly influential personalities in the fashion industry, professional athletes too seemed to have taken an active role not just in perfecting their sport but also in been seen in stylish clothes, as well. Legitimately considered to be stars in their own right, athletes enjoy the adulation of fans who seem to have hero-worshipped them, not just in their flair for a particular sport but most adoring supporters have also taken interest in what they wear too. This opened yet another market that caught the attention of many top designers in the industry and breed younger brands that also competitively vie for the consumer market’s patronage.

In the world of surfers, both the athletes and the sport fanatics, Hurley seems to be among the favorite brands that have taken precedence among the rest of the clothing manufacturers. The history of the Hurley Clothing line actually date way back in the 70’s, which was founded by Bob Hurley who originally owned a surf shop in Southern California. His interest in clothing was initially stirred when he decided to strike a proposal with Billabong, an Australian company for his shop to be the official licensee for the Billabong board shorts in the United States. By creating an autonomous company, he was able to rake in such a lucrative amount of $ 67 million sales, which made him realize that there is indeed a huge market to surfing apparel.

It was only in 1998, when Hurley officially burst into the American fashion scene that instantly generated a big change in the active wear industry. The Hurley shirts in particular became the top favorites, offering a fresh new perspective in the clothing line for men, kids and boys that came along with a string of selections of surfing accessories and wetsuits. This led to the formation of a fan base that resulted to the impressive expansion of 500 retailers from a single trade show event. Quite predictably, Hurley grew into a multi-million dollar manufacturing company, that easily doubled it’s account in just a few years form its operation and have become to be one of the highly regarded brands as an innovative leader in the industry today.

Soon enough, the collection extended to include the Hurley women’s clothing line that turned out to also have a large market and continued to the highly favored apparels not just of surfing aficionados but caters to a large age bracket as well. One of the brand’s patented designs are the wetsuits that features zipper-less designs and board shorts that doesn’t use any of those Velcro zips. The company also offers original styles that offer new types of fabrics, bolder print and provide the young consumer the “freedom of choice”.

To further cater to the Hurley women and men costumer base, the company collaborated with Nike in 2002 to further expand the distribution of the products on the global scale. This move largely depends on the vision to provide a unique an international lifestyle label that teenagers can best relate to. The only way possible way that the company can achieve this without compromising its roots would be to form an alliance with one of the manufacturing giants such as Nike.

Today, the Hurley women and men apparel is said to be partly due to the company’s ability to infuse the sense of adventure in all its materials, offering both sexes classic clothing with a fun new twist that caters to the global market.
