Kate Spade was born Katherine Noel Brosnahan in 1962. She hails from Kansas City in Missouri. She was the founder of the fashion line called Kate Spade New York.

In 1986, right after she graduated from college, she became one of the staff at a mademoiselle magazine. That is why; she started making sketches of handbags, innocently creating designs on her own. In 1993, after a few hard work, and some good old passion for designing handbags, Kate Spade launched the “Kate Spade Handbags” together with her husband, Andy Spade. Nobody really knew what the outcome of that pilot launch was. However, after a few years of being in the handbag industry, Kate Spade’s hard work has finally paid off.

In 1996, CFDA (Council for Fashion Designers of America) awarded Kate with the prestigious America’s New Fashion Talent in Accessories. Two years after, she was again awarded from the same association, this time as the Best Accessory Designer of the Year. She has also received numerous awards in 2004: the giants of Design Awards for Tastemaker, Elle Décor’s International Award for Bedding, and finally, Designer of the Year from Bon Apetit’s American Food and Entertaining Award.
