The other option is do what the other big time shoe companies do; get a posh room from Midtown Manhattan. But then, Kenneth Cole didn’t consider both options. So he came up with a brilliant idea.

He decided to borrow a truck from a good friend in Manhattan, hoping to sell his products along the streets in Midtown Manhattan. Primarily, he realized this was not a very good idea as obtaining a mayor’s permit is very difficult. It was said that the only people allowed to park along those streets were production crews that make films and do shoots for movies. This didn’t stop the aspiring designer from achieving what he has long been wanting.

He then changed his the label of the truck from Kenneth Cole Incorporated to Kenneth Cole Productions Incorporated. He then asked for the mayor’s permit, saying he will be shooting a film entitled “The Birth of a Shoe Company”. With a fully furnished forty-foot trailer truck parked along the busy street, Kenneth Cole Shoes were sold and after two and a half days, his pairs of more than forty thousand were sold quickly. And as the adage goes, the rest is history.
