Kors is a pure New Yorker, born 1959 and raised to a well – off Long Island family. He studied at The Fashion Institute of Technology and took fashion design. His creations for Lothar’s amazed the fashion media easily, persuading Kors to put up his own name and get ready for the fame the fashion world could offer. Striding with self-confidence and determination, the Michael Kors label was born in 1981. His first collection of apparels was introduced at Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman. From when his collection was created, Kors’ vision of a stylish, lavish American sportswear never drifted. In addition to that, he achieved the prestigious prize in the fashion world, which is the CFDA Award for Womenswear Designer of the Year.

Kors’ first women collection was also first opened at Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue.Michael Kors Men’s collection was launched in January 2002. The full – scale line received an unbelievable response from the buying public, leading the company to receive another distinct award which honored Kors as the Menswear Designer of the Year.

He also got the Golden Hanger Award for best designer. In 2001, Out Magazine dubbed included him to the Out 100, a list honoring anyone who has contributed significantly the year before. In June 2001, the multi awarded designer was chosen as one of the three nominees for the Accessories Designer of the Year, following the introduction of his accessories collection. Now, beat that!

Currently, Michael Kors is the Executive Vice President of The Council of Fashion Designers of America. The self-confessed gay stylist has also been an adjudicator on the Emmy-selected, reality-TV show Project Runway.
