Genetics have always played an important role in determining the skills and aptitude of one’s offspring. In the case of the daughter of one of music history’s legendary icon Paul McCartney, the natural flair for the arts and creativity has taken a rather interesting turn. Stella McCartney did not turn into yet another overnight pop sensation, but instead pursued an entirely different path – fashion, which she proceeded to conquer industry by storm.
As a young girl, young Stella trotted around the globe with her celebrity parents along with her other siblings. Despite the phenomenal success of the Beatles back then, her parents have striven to provide them with a normal existence. However, fame and fortune sometimes comes with a heavy price. But she was able to focus more on herself and on her passions and skills – which led her to design clothes at such a young age of twelve. Her very first creation was a jacket. Seeing her natural flair for designing clothes, her parents were supportive and allowed her to hone her skill further in Savile Row and was given the opportunity to get an internship under Christian Lacroix.
She proceeded to get formal training St Martin’s College of Art & Design and at her graduation in 1995, she invited her close celebrity friends such as Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Yasmin Le Bon to grace the runway to showcase her graduation collection – all for free. That very first show made it in the front pages of the news and fashion magazines, and the entire collection as immediately sold at a London boutique called Tokio.
But what sets the Stella McCartney designs apart from the rest of the designer labels out there? A self-professed and strict vegetarian, all the Stella McCartney women’s collection veers away from using leather or fur in all her creations. There are even some of the Stella McCartney clothes that features text messages on the clothing to further elaborate her staunch support on the no animal policy. One of the most sensational pieces was the Stella McCartney women’s collection of jackets that she designed for Adidas that has a line “ suitable for sporty vegetarians” on its sleeves. Her father is also an advocate and is widely known to support PETA in the protests against many fashion designers who still use animal furs and other individuals who also chose to wear it.
Aside from having a celebrity father and equally famous friends to back her up, Stella McCartney has proven that she is also a star in her own right, as attested in her impressive string of credentials and awards over the years. She was solely responsible for designing intricate clothes for Madonna’s Re-Invention Tour and the Annie Lennox road summer tour along with clinching a joint venture with the globally famous sportswear manufacturer – Adidas, offering her won special line of performance and active apparels under the label “ Adidas by Stella McCartney. Aside from that, she has also received the prestigious VH1/ Vogue Designer Award last 2000 for her Stella McCartney women’s collection – with the said award was presented by her proud father.
Most of the clothes designed by Stella McCartney offer both funky and provocative designs. She is also known for her unpredictability, which has led a lot of followers who eagerly anticipate what the young designer has cooked up for the next fashion season. Aside from the clothing line, Stella McCartney label eventually offered other luxury items ranging from handbags to skin care items. So if you want to incorporate diversity in your wardrobe collection, you’ll definitely have fun dressing up with Stella McCartney designer line.
