Tommy Hilfiger Women

Tommy Jacob Hilfiger is one of the famous American designers in the world of contemporary fashion today. He literally elevated street wear fashion into a higher level and became one of the most sought after designer brands for the younger generation not just in the United States, but in the key countries around the globe as well.

Tommy Hilfiger grew up in an Irish Catholic family and is the second among nine children. Right after he finished high school in Elmira Free Academy, instead of attending further schooling, he chose to work for a retail store when he was 18. He would use his earnings to get his hands on jeans and bell-bottoms from his regular trek to New York, which he would customize and sell at the local downtown area. Soon enough, it became a fashion hot spot for many teenagers. This prompted him to create his very first label “ People’s Place” that proceeded to become one of the hottest trends to hit the streets of New York.

However, the success was destined to be short lived, when the brand store closed after seven years of operation. At that time Hilfiger was 25 and this store was demolished in order to make some room for the construction of the First Arena. However, this tragedy opened a window of opportunity for the young designer since he was soon offered a designer assistant post at two of the most prestigious fashion houses in the industry – Calvin Klein and Perry Ellis.

After establishing his own niche and a bankable reputation in the industry, he founded the Tommy Hilfiger Corporation that went public in 1992, where he first introduced his very first men’s wear collection. By 2004, the fashion house boasts of 5, 400 employees and astounding revenue of over $ 1.8 billion in a year. Soon the accolades came in, generating more interest and appeal to the designer products, and among the best sellers in casual fashion are the Tommy Hilfiger sweaters for men, which were available in the distinct blue, red and white logo of the brand. Of course, this unprecedented success prompted him to move on to a more lucrative market, extending his product line to cater to the feminine whims and launched the exclusive Tommy Hilfiger women’s collection. This expansion turned out to be a lucrative venture mainly because women are always more prone to splurge on designer clothes than men After several years, the designer also introduced accessories and other luxury items such as fragrances for both Tommy Hilfiger women and men’s collection.

Staying true to his rich American heritage, all Tommy Hilfiger stores scattered worldwide features fresh and crisp American style along with the unique details that makes it classic pieces. The designer brand has endeavored to provide high quality clothing products that are available at competitive process. There are currently several labels under the designer brands, namely Tommy Hilfiger, Tommy Jeans, Hilfiger Denim and Hilfiger Sports. All clothing lines feature classic designs with a contemporary twist that has become the signature style of Tommy Hilfiger women and men’s collection all throughout the years.

However, there have been some controversy and hate- propaganda surrounding the designer that were designed to besmirch his reputation and somehow knock his company a few rungs off the fashion hierarchy. One of the most debilitating one was the circulation of an email claiming Hilfiger apparently guested in an Oprah show and made some comments against Asians and black people wearing his clothes, which allegedly ended up Oprah asking him to walk out of her show. However, this was later effectively debunked and discredited when it was proven that the designer has never appear on any of Oprah’s show in the first place.

With the rumors efficiently squashed, people from all races have continued to patronize and enjoy the distinctively preppy ad sporty combinations of Tommy Hilfiger.
